Irritable Bowel Syndrome, commonly referred to as IBS is a widespread and chronic gastrointestinal disorder. It is a distressing condition and although not dangerous, can be debilitating. IBS is a functional disorder which means that whilst there is no abnormality in the structure of the gut the function of the gut is abnormal. This can be extremely frustrating for sufferers. Not only do suffers have to tolerate the symptoms of the disorder but also, due to the inability of doctors to locate any physical indicators of IBS, those diagnosed often worry that their symptoms are indicative of a more serious medical condition.
Symptoms of IBS vary from person to person and are changeable. The following are some of the most common symptoms:
- Abdominal cramping and pain relieved by bowel movement.
- Diarrhoea and/or constipation.
- A change in the frequency of bowel movements.
- Excess gas.
- Muscle and joint pain.
- Tiredness.
- Frequent and urgent need to urinate.
- Feeling that your bowel problems are interfering with getting on with life.
I have a undertaken specialist training in the treatment of IBS using cognitive behaviour hypnotherapy. The benefit of this gut directed therapy has been medically proven to improve the symptoms of IBS and as such the use of this type of hypnotherapy has been approved by the NHS.
During hypnosis I use specific gut directed techniques and suggestions to improve the function of the gut. You will be given recordings to take away with you and you will be required to regularly listen to them.
The cost: Usually six sessions are required for which I charge £250.00 in total. The six sessions are in addition to an initial consultation.
