We all experience stress at different levels and for different reasons. A small amount of stress is healthy and can actually motivate us positively but there are times in our lives, perhaps due to family, financial, social or work pressures that we experience unhealthy levels of stress. Our responses to stress also differ but may include heart rate and blood pressure increase, feelings of fear, anger, frustration or lack of control. These feelings can continue long after the original reason for the stress has gone, impacting on your physical and mental health. [Read more…]
Habits and addictions
A habit is a something that we do frequently, often without thinking about it. Many habits are harmless but if the habitual behaviour is unwanted then it can cause distress. An addiction is a more extreme form of unwanted behaviour. People often feel that they are out of control and have lost any power or ability to direct their actions. The consequences of additions can be life destroying.
Hypnosis can erase your unwanted habitual or addictive behaviour by reprogramming your sub concious mind so that it no longer sends you a trigger to engage in the unwanted behaviour. Hypnosis can also be used to give you conscious recognition that you are about to engage in habitual or addictive behaviour so you can stop it in it’s tracks.
Sleep disorders
Sleep disorders are common and often occur at stressful times in our lives. Transient insomnia usually only lasts for a few days to a few weeks after which we revert back to a normal sleep pattern but chronic insomnia is more debilitating and can last from a few weeks to months or even years. Insomniacs may find it difficult to drift off to sleep, they may wake in the night and be unable to go back to sleep or they may wake up too early. [Read more…]
Fears / Phobias
Phobias are common and many of us are able to live with our phobia without it interfering with our ability to function normally. For example, the fear of spiders is common but most of us with this fear will simply deal with it by avoiding contact with spiders. For some people though, it may be that the subject of your fear is unavoidable or perhaps so severe that it has caused you to take extreme measures to avoid it. You may recognise that the object of your fear is not proportional to your reaction to it but never the less you are unable to control your response. [Read more…]
Self-esteem / Confidence
Low self-esteem and lack of confidence are closely related and often accompany one another. Low self-esteem relates to the way we feel about ourselves, whereas a lack of confidence usually relates our perceived ability to perform a specific activity.
Sometimes low self-esteem or lack of confidence can have a significant negative effect on the way we live our lives. The fear of failure or lack of self- belief can prevent us from grasping opportunities. Perhaps you are not taking opportunities at work because you do not have the confidence to believe you can succeed or maybe you decline social opportunities because you feel that people will judge you negatively. These negative self-beliefs can affect us in so many ways. [Read more…]
Anxiety / Panic attacks
Hypnotherapy is a powerful tool in the reduction and elimination of anxiety and panic attacks.
Anxiety occurs when we become uncontrollably worried about something to the extent that it interferes with normal day to day life. Sometimes the cause is known and other times the anxiety has seemingly come from nowhere. Anxiety can cause physical and mental symptoms such as elevated heart rate, irritability, poor sleep patterns, shortness of breath, sweating, trembling, tension and low self-esteem. [Read more…]
Sports performance
Perhaps you are a runner who strives to beat your personal best race time, or a tennis player who needs to feel more confident in executing high performance and consistent play. Athlete’s and professional sports players often refer to the need to have belief in themselves. As well as training their bodies to perform at their best they also train their minds to have this self- belief.
I use hypnotherapy to enable you to perform at your absolute best. I can enable you to stay in control of your performance, to relax your body, to calm your nerves and feel confident in your ability to achieve. Positive visualisation is just on of many techniques that I employ to make you the very best that you can be in your field.
Relationships / Break up
Most people have experienced a relationship breakdown, or problematic mistrust during a relationship. Sometimes the stress and hurt that mistrusting relationships or their breakdown causes is so intense that you just can’t seem to move on. Hypnotherapy can rid you of this hurt and allow you to think more positively and advance into happier times. I can help you deal with your feelings of hurt and loss and also any feelings of low self-esteem or anger that mistrust or a relationship breakdown may have triggered.
Exam / Interview nerves
It is common and entirely normal to feel nervous before an exam, be it academic, work related or perhaps a driving test. A degree of nervousness can actually aid your performance. A problem arises when the anxiety associated with the exam or test causes symptoms which inhibit performance. Examples may be, nausea, trembling, your mind going blank, extreme fear of failure, and negative thought processes about what may go wrong. [Read more…]
Blushing
Blushing is an unconscious physical reaction that is caused by certain situations which for many people can cause embarrassment and distress. The embarrassment of blushing can become so severe that the sufferer avoids any social contact that they feel may trigger it. Often the anticipation blushing in similar situations leads to a cycle of worrying about it happening again which then increases anxiety and tension and so increases the chances of blushing again.
